What is Go Math! Academy?

Go Math! Academy is an at-home math learning website with math problems, math help videos, and lots of motivators to keep kids engaged. Children can work on their full grade-level curriculum in order, or they can choose individual topics and skills to work on. It’s a great way to prepare for tests, to get extra support or homework help, or to keep math skills fresh over the summer.

What grades are currently available?

Who is Go Math! Academy for?

Go Math! Academy is appropriate for any child who wants math enrichment or support. The curriculum is aligned with the goals of the Common Core State Standards, so the material is broadly applicable.

My child uses the GO Math! textbook in school. How is Go Math! Academy related to the GO Math textbook?

The curriculum followed in Go Math! Academy is based on Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s school program, GO Math! Students who use the GO Math! textbook in school will see direct alignment with their school work.

My child doesn’t use math textbooks from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Is Go Math! Academy okay for them to use?

Since Go Math! Academy is based on the Common Core State Content standards, it’s completely appropriate no matter what program your child is learning in school.

Is the math content on grade level or above/below?

The math content is on grade level and addresses the grade level content standards for each grade.

What if my child would like more challenge?

Children can move around the curriculum at will, so your child could move fast and do content that is normally addressed at the end of his or her grade level curriculum. Then he or she would move up to the next grade and continue. If you prefer, you could set your child’s grade level higher than his or her grade in school and allow him or her to learn the higher grade level material at his or her own pace.

Go Math! Academy curriculum can be accessed in order for each grade (starting with topic 1, skill 1). Alternatively, your child can select a topic of interest further on in the curriculum. Feel free to skip ahead a grade or review a concept from a previous year.

How do I change the email or password associated with the account?

Your Go Math! Academy account is also an account at HMHco.com. To change your username or password, you need to change it on HMHco.com. You can do that by logging in here. You will also see this information in the Manage Account section of your Parent Dashboard.

How can I add or delete a child in my account?

Log into your account and go to the “Manage Child Profiles” screen on your Parent Dashboard. From there you can add, edit, or delete a child.

I’d like to sign up 6 kids to my account. Is that possible?

We provide support for up to 5 child profiles. To support additional children, you’ll need to buy a new subscription. Since Go Math! Academy usernames are all unique email addresses, you’ll need to use another email address to buy the subscription. You can get a free email address through many different providers such as Gmail, Yahoo, and more.

How do I opt out of emails?

Emails that contain notifications about credit card transactions and billing issues are sent as a matter of courtesy or to meet transactional requirements and do not have opt-out capability.

You may opt out of marketing emails related to Go Math! Academy, click the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the email.

Starting in May 2014, we will be providing a “weekly progress update email,” one email per week. Starting in June 2014 it will be possible to unsubscribe from that email on the “Manage Account” page of your Parent Dashboard.

What browsers can I use to access Go Math! Academy?

You can use a desktop computer (Mac or PC) with the following browsers: Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer 10 or higher. If you do not have one of these browsers, Chrome and Firefox are available for free download.

Can I use Go Math! Academy on a tablet?

On a tablet, you can access Go Math! Academy and view videos, but for the best experience, especially for the math problems, we recommend using a desktop computer. We are working to optimize Go Math! Academy for tablets.

Can I use Go Math! Academy on my mobile phone?

This is not recommended beyond viewing videos from the video library.

Is the Go Math! Academy content aligned with the goals of the Common Core State Standards?

Yes, Go Math! Academy is based on Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s GO Math! curriculum, which is aligned with the goals of the Common Core State Standards.

How closely does the Go Math! Academy content align with the GO Math! textbook content?

The Go Math! Academy content aligns very closely to the content used in GO Math! Students who use the GO Math! textbook in the classroom could use Go Math! Academy to catch up, keep up, or get ahead, or for homework help or test preparation. It would also be appropriate for summer enrichment and skill refreshers.

NOTE: Topic and skill names may sometimes look different from what you see in your textbook because they have been shortened and edited for use online.

Is Go Math! Academy worthwhile if my child doesn’t use GO Math! in school?

Yes. Because of its alignment with the goals of the Common Core State Standards, the Go Math! Academy curriculum provides applicable math practice and enrichment even if the child uses another textbook in school.

Who are the experts featured in the Math On the Spot Videos?

Go Math! Academy features hundreds of entertaining video lessons taught by expert educators. The videos in our library were developed with Dr. Edward Burger, an award-winning math educator and President of Southwestern University. Dr. Burger is joined by two other engaging math teachers and, for the younger grades, a cast of funny puppet friends.

My child is ready to move up a grade. How do I change grade level?

Go to your parent dashboard and click “Manage Child Profiles.” Select your child’s profile and click “edit.” You may then change your child’s grade.

How do I decide where my child should begin?

Go Math! Academy’s self-paced math instruction features hundreds of math problems covering a range of topics. Select your child’s grade when you create his or her profile. Your child will be automatically set up to move through the curriculum in order (starting with topic 1, skill 1). Alternatively, your child can select a topic of interest further on in the curriculum and begin there.

What kinds of questions will my child see on Go Math! Academy?

Your child will be an assortment of questions types on Go Math! Academy including multiple choice and fill in the blank. Some questions will have more than one correct answer.

How do I answer a question on the Personal Math Trainer?

You’ll need a keyboard and mouse to input your answers. For more help, click the “i” button in the lower left corner of the Personal Math Trainer.

How do I check if question is correct on the Personal Math Trainer?

Click “Check Answer” to see if your answer is correct.

How do I advance to the next question on the Personal Math Trainer?

Click “Next” to move to the next question.

How do I get help on a problem?

To get help on a problem, click “Help Me” to see step-by-step instructions or click “Show Me” (which is available for some questions but not all) to see a video in which a master teacher explains a similar problem.

How do I watch a Math On the Spot video?

There are over 700 Math on the Spot videos featured in Go Math! Academy. There are two ways to access the videos. First, you can also click “Math On the Spot” videos from the lower right hand corner of the child’s dashboard screen. Second, you will sometimes see a “Show Me” button on the right side of the Personal Math Trainer. That means a video is available for this problem type.

How do I start a skill again?

You can start a skill again for a review at any time. Just select the skill from the topic menu and click “Let’s Go” on the Today’s Journey window.
